The Canadore Panthers men’s volleyball team triumphed in a dominating 3-0 victory over La Cité at home in North Bay, on Saturday. Despite a spirited performance from La Cité, the Panthers executed a near-perfect match, taking the sets 25-18, 25-21, and 25-22.
With an impressive team effort, the Panthers had standout performances across the board. Sean Malherbe was the star of the match, leading the way with 12 kills on 20 attempts, posting a .500 hitting percentage, and finishing with 13 total points. Hallen Ettles also had an exceptional performance, contributing 11 kills on 15 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage and 14 points overall. The duo played a crucial role in driving the Panthers' offense to a dominant 64 points.
On the defensive side, the Panthers excelled with 60 digs, showcasing their resilience and discipline. Kayden Dionne was another key contributor, registering 6 points with 6 kills and a .357 hitting percentage, while Helix Hunter added 4 points on 4 kills with a .800 hitting percentage, further solidifying the Panthers' attack.
The Panthers will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches as they continue their strong season.
On the women’s side, the Canadore Panthers women’s volleyball team faced a tough challenge on Saturday, as they were swept 3-0 by La Cité in their latest match at home in North Bay. Despite a determined effort, the Panthers were unable to break through La Cité's defense and offensive momentum.
The match saw La Cité dominate with a final scoreline of 25-23, 25-22, 25-20, showcasing impressive team play and solid individual performances. Canadore struggled to generate a consistent offensive rhythm, finishing with a team attack percentage of just .168, compared to La Cité's more efficient .222.
For the Panthers, Kira Fahrbach led the way with 8 kills and 4 errors on 25 attempts, contributing 10 points to the team's total. Elise Churman also had a solid outing, recording 8 kills and 3 errors on 23 attempts, finishing with 11 points. Despite their efforts, the Panthers couldn't find the breakthrough needed to turn the tide in the match.
While the loss was tough for the Panthers, they will look to bounce back as they prepare for future games, focusing on improving their offense and reducing unforced errors.
The Canadore College men’s basketball team (1-9) suffered a challenging defeat on the road, falling 97-62 to the Redeemer Royals (3-7) on Saturday afternoon.
The game, in Hamilton, saw Canadore struggle with shooting accuracy, finishing the game with a 32.4% field goal percentage (22-68). The team also faced difficulties from beyond the arc, managing just 17.9% on three-pointers (5-28). Despite these struggles, the team showed resilience, with several standout individual performances.
Ty Huxtable led the way for the Panthers, contributing 12 points and 7 rebounds over 29 minutes of play. Thomas Gowland also had an impressive performance, scoring 14 points while pulling down 5 rebounds. Logan Whitmell finished with 15 points, including a strong 8-for-9 showing from the free throw line, adding to the team's efforts.
