Making the Most of Your Reading Week: Recharge, Connect, and Excel

Oct 17, 2023 | Ishmael Van Der Rassel, Student Storyteller

As we approach the much-anticipated Reading Week, now is a good time to start gearing up for a well-deserved break! It's a chance to rest and recharge and to reconnect with friends and family.

Reading Week isn't just about unwinding; it's a chance to get ahead with your studies. There are various methods you can employ to make the most of your time. Reviewing your study notes, tackling pending assignments, and diving back into your textbooks are all great ways to start.

This is also a time to reflect on your study approach and your learning style. If you're a visual learner, consider using flashcards. Enlist the help of a friend or family member to quiz you with review questions to see how much you've absorbed.

For those of you who learn best through hands-on experience, consider revisiting some of your previous assignments. Refreshing your memory by reviewing them can be a game-changer when prepping for those upcoming tests that cover a significant chunk of your course material. You could also form a study group with your peers – a supportive environment to bolster your confidence and self-esteem throughout the academic year.

Maintaining a routine and schedule during the break is essential to stay on top of your academic commitments and deadlines.

If you are looking for support, Student Success Services provides student-focused services to help guide you to success in your studies. Staff provide support through learning strategies, mental health and wellness events, and by reducing and/or removing educational–related barriers through accommodation planning with students with disabilities.

Don't forget to prioritize your mental well-being while staying focused on your academic responsibilities. After all, balance is the key to making the most of Reading Week and ensuring your overall experience at Canadore is both productive and enjoyable!

Lastly, remember to give your work a once-over for any errors, take breaks, and step outside to enjoy some time in nature.
