Diego’s Canadore Story – A Testimonial of Growth, Change and Community

After having lived for more than 40 years in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I decided to come to Canada to study, leaving behind part of my family and friends but knowing that I was with my wife and my two children, ages 5 and 7.
The economy and security in my country are not very good, which is why we planned this change of country. After having worked 25 years in the television industry, I enrolled in the Broadcasting Television program at Canadore College to get a jump on my professional career.
From the first moment we arrived in Canada, we were received in a warm and kind manner. When I arrived at Canadore College, I felt lost and my English was not very good, but there were always people willing to help me with everything I needed.
What surprised me most about Canadore College was the infrastructure and the quality of the technological equipment. They really have the latest generation equipment, which is well used by the excellent quality of the teachers who teach at Canadore.
I have learned a lot of things after moving to Canada, the culture is very different from what I was used to. I have adapted to this new life. North Bay is definitely a much smaller city compared to Buenos Aires and I have fallen in love with it, the peace and kindness of the people here is the reason why we stayed here.
One of the ways I adapted to life in Canada was by helping the community, I have helped in hockey games, made documentaries about life in North Bay, about the city museum and worked on local television shows which helped me understand more about Canadian culture.
Coming to study in Canada not only makes you get to know Canadian culture. Canada is a multicultural country, so I have met people from all over the world, this led me to grow as a person understanding what life is like in other parts of the world and sharing other diverse cultures.
I would definitely recommend other international students to come and study at Canadore College, it is an institution of excellence, that is why after finishing my studies and having reinforced my television career, I have decided to stay and work at Canadore College as a Media Technician, to be able to teach the next generations something of what I have learned here and in my country of origin.
