Canadore College Varsity Wrap up – November 9 and 10, 2024

 Canadore College women's varsity volleyball team put on a commanding performance

The Canadore College men's basketball team put forth a determined effort but ultimately fell short against the visiting Fanshawe Falcons, losing 81-72, Saturday at the Education Centre Gymnasium.

Leading the way for the Canadore Panthers was Ty Huxtable
, who delivered a standout performance with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting including a perfect 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. Huxtable also contributed three rebounds, two assists, and six steals in his 37 minutes of play. His strong performance in the second half helped the Panthers close the gap, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.

Joining Huxtable in double figures was Thomas Gowland who added 17 points, including three three-pointers, and also collected five rebounds. The Panthers' defense struggled to contain Fanshawe's inside presence as the Falcons scored 36 points in the paint compared to 28 for Canadore.

 

The Canadore College Men's Volleyball team bounced back in impressive fashion on November 10, securing a dominant 3-0 victory over Seneca College at the King Campus in Toronto. The Panthers won the match in straight sets with scores of 25-15, 27-25, and 27-25, showcasing both offensive strength and defensive resilience.

 

The victory came just one day after a tough loss to Georgian College where Canadore battled hard but ultimately fell short. However, the Panthers' determination was evident in their performance against Seneca as they dominated the opening set and held on for hard-fought victories in the second and third sets.

 

Top Performers for Canadore College:

Khaled Bryant led the Panthers with 5 kills on 13 attempts, finishing with a solid .385 attack percentage, contributing 8 total points and playing a crucial role in the team's offensive output.


Carter Hummel was a standout in the match recording 7 kills and 12 points including a team-high .583 attack percentage. His performance was instrumental in securing key points throughout the match.


Peter Ostranski-Ayles also had a strong showing with 7 kills and 9 points while Tristan Godmaire provided consistent setting with 25 assists.


Ethan Lucas was another key contributor with 4 kills and a .444 hitting percentage, helping to provide balance in the Panthers' attack.

The team's defense was a major factor in their success with Ethan Israelstam providing solid backcourt support with 12 digs.

The Canadore College women's volleyball team put on a commanding performance on November 9, securing a 3-0 sweep over the Georgian Grizzlies in action in Barrie. The win saw the Panthers dominate every set, finishing with scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-16 to extend their winning streak.

 

Leading the charge for Canadore was Emily Peltier who showcased her offensive power with 8 kills on 16 attempts, finishing with a .312 hitting percentage and 12 total points. Her all-around performance was instrumental in the Panthers' ability to control the match. Sophie Hotte also contributed significantly with 7 kills and 8 points while Kassidy Dyer and Elise Churman added 7 and 9 points, respectively.

 

Set up by Reece Sommerfeld, who delivered 30 assists, the Canadore offense was firing on all cylinders. Sommerfeld also contributed 3 points and 7 digs, displaying her versatility. Defensively, Payton Smith led the team with 9 digs, keeping the Georgian offense at bay throughout the match.

 

On November 10, the Panthers faced a tough challenge on the road falling 3-1 to the Seneca Sting. After splitting the first two sets, the Panthers were unable to close out the match with set scores of 22-25, 18-25, 26-24, and 19-25.

 

Kira Fahrbach was the standout performer for Canadore, leading the team with 10 kills and 11 points on a .308 hitting percentage. Reece Sommerfeld also had a strong outing, dishing out 23 assists and contributing 3 points while Elise Churman finished with 7 points, 4 kills, and 14 total attempts.

 

This upcoming weekend, all three Panthers teams will be competing. The men's and women's volleyball teams will play at home in the gymnasium on College Drive with the women's match scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and the men's match at 3:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the men's basketball team will be on the road, facing Mohawk in Hamilton on Saturday followed by a game against Niagara College in Welland on Sunday.
