Parry Sound Campus Ride Share

The Canadore Ride Share program is a ride-sharing initiative designed to connect students and seniors commuting to and from campus, fostering a sense of community and support.

Whether you're a student seeking cost savings, social connections, or environmental mindfulness, or a senior looking to participate in programming and engage with peers, this program can meet your needs. Simply complete the Passenger form, the Driver form, or both, and we'll find your ideal match based on your schedule and preferences. Join us in promoting meaningful connections, where students, seniors, or a mix of both can enjoy the journey together, enriching their campus experience along the way!

Rideshare Tips

Setting up some ground rules is key for a successful ride share experience. Check out these tips to help keep things running smoothly:

  1. Establish a schedule for driving duties, whether with a dedicated driver or rotating, deciding on the frequency of rotation - daily, weekly, or monthly.
  2. Plan your route and pickup locations, aiming for convenience for all members, whether picking up from homes or meeting at a central spot, and set clear meeting points for the return trip.
  3. Agree on how to split driving expenses. If driving is not shared equally, include payment dates. Suggested rate per passenger is $0.16-$0.20/km. Exact rate can be determined amongst ride share matches.
  4. Set a time limit for waiting for passengers (typically 2-3 minutes).
  5. Define rules for smoking, music preferences and volume, consumption of food and drinks in the car, etc. Keep the car clean and tidy. Avoid littering or leaving personal belongings behind after the ride.
  6. Clarify that the purpose of ride share is solely for commuting, preventing it from becoming a personal errand service unless unanimously agreed upon.
  7. Establish a communication chain with a designated ride share leader.
  8. Arrange a clear protocol for handling emergencies or adjustments due to illness, vehicle issues, etc., ensuring all members have contact information for each other.
  9. Emphasize responsible driving practices, including wearing seat belts, maintaining vehicle upkeep, and refraining from speeding, alcohol consumption, or dangerous driving maneuvers.
  10. Review your insurance policy and ensure that all members are informed about it. We recommend speaking with your insurance company to ensure appropriate liability coverage.

Please give the ride share some time to get going and be open to adjustments as there may be challenges along the way! You can always try again with a new ride share, if needed.
