Experiential Learning (EL) immerses students in hands-on activities that bridge the gap between theory and practice by offering opportunities to engage directly with real-world or simulated work environments. Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) is a sub-category of EL, referring specifically to activities through which there is 3rd party engagement (e.g., employer, industry, community, etc.) such as placements, practicums, and community service learning. At Canadore College, EL enriches the student experience by fostering deeper understanding, skill development, and readiness for future careers. Through EL activities, students participate in their own learning journey through a cyclical process of engaging in concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation (Kolb, 1984).
